DEADLINE 29 August 2014, 5pm

Eyelevel Gallery invites proposals for the Over the Hill Performance Series that will take place between 24 and 27 September at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site of Canada. Coinciding with Eyelevel Gallery?s 40th Anniversary, this series will explore the many uses of this particular historic site, and its relationship in proximity to the surrounding contemporary landscape and community that it serves. Four artists will be selected to deliver site-specific performance-based works.

Of particular interest are responses to the Halifax Citadel?s rich and diverse histories, ideas of boundary, accidental audience, and public space and identity. Following an initial site visit, we?ve noted potential in the distinct echoing expanse of the interior fort.

Performances should temporarily engage a space within the park’s boundaries and selected artists will deliver a public presentation. Proposals should address the Halifax Citadel as a specific site, giving visitors the opportunity to react and interact with outdoor performances. We encourage a variety of performance formats including short works and durations or multi-day projects.

The Halifax Citadel is among the nation?s most significant historic sites. Operated by Parks Canada, it has been carefully restored to its Victorian-era glory. Its story, which endures through exhibits and living history programs, is a vital thread in the fabric of the city and the country.
