Active Committees

Committees are a great way to get involved and have a say in the operation of the union. Committees make recommendations that Council can adopt, and allows Council to hear from students on specific matters.

  • Meetings are weekly (Sat. 4-6pm) in the Duke Learning Commons
  • FREE FOOD for students joining in-person
  • Options for joining virtually available (contact committee chair)
  • Currently working on pushing back against removal of 24/7 studio access
  • Purpose of the committee: “S.O.C. directly tackles the most pressing concerns of students at NSCAD, things like divestment from genocide, reacting to campus consolidation, and adverse changes made by administration.”

SUNSCAD Student Lounge Committee

Chairperson: Ziggy Kirch (president@sunscad.org)

  • Meetings are weekly (Fri. 12-2pm) in the Duke Learning Commons
  • FREE FOOD for students joining in-person
  • Options for joining virtually available (contact committee chair)
  • Currently working to develop a new policy to propose to administration for handling of graffiti
  • Purpose of the committee:SUNSCAD Council formed this committee in order to propose a new policy to NSCAD on handling graffiti. Currently no graffiti is technically allowed, but as students we are aware of the important role it plays in our shared spaces

SUNSCAD Zine Press Committee

Chairperson: Ziggy Kirch (president@sunscad.org)

  • Meetings are weekly (contact chair if interested)
  • In-person or online meetings
  • Currently working on a SUNSCAD Handbook and new newspaper publication.
  • Purpose of the committee: To direct the projects the Zine Press takes on and aid in decision making. The Zine Press Committee is a standing committee that differs from other SUNSCAD committees as Council must vote to ratify members, rather than the members of the committee itself doing so.

CFS National Committees:

The Canadian Federation of Students has several national campaign committees that are open to all students within the federation. As SUNSCAD is a part of the federation, that includes all NSCAD students! The committees seeking members are:

  • The Affordable Housing Campaign
  • The Anti War Campaign
  • National General Unlimited Student Strike

Members can sign up for one or more campaigns that interest them.

Please email getinvolved@cfs-fcee.ca if interested, with the campaign(s) you would be interested in being a part of.If you have any questions about committees, email president@sunscad.org. We look forward to working with you all!
